POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Officer – System & Network Administration plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the University’s ICT infrastructure, including systems, networks, and cloud services.

The position is responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise systems, monitoring network infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity posture, and supporting advanced technical operations across the University.

This role also provides Level 2/3 technical support, contributes to ICT projects, and ensures compliance with IT policies and standards, supporting teaching, learning, and operational excellence at BUV

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

System Administration & Infrastructure

• Administer and maintain enterprise systems, including Windows Server and Linux servers
• Manage Active Directory / Entra ID, user lifecycle, and access control
• Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning
• Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes
• Perform patching, configuration management, and system hardening

Network Administration & Operations

• Manage campus network infrastructure (LAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, firewall)
• Configure and troubleshoot network components and connectivity issues
• Monitor network performance and ensure service availability
• Perform root cause analysis for incidents and propose improvements

IT Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain security controls:
  • Patch management
  • Endpoint protection
  • Access control
• Monitor logs and respond to security incidents
• Ensure compliance with ICT policies and data protection requirements

Cloud & Enterprise Services

• Administer Microsoft 365 and Azure services
• Support hybrid environments (on-premise + cloud)
• Assist in deployment of new enterprise and cloud-based solutions
• Optimise system and cloud resource usage

Incident Management & Advanced Support

• Handle escalated incidents (Level 2/3 support)
• Troubleshoot complex system, network, and security issues
• Provide technical guidance and support to ICT Support team

Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Participate in ICT projects:
  • Infrastructure upgrades
  • Cloud adoption
  • System migrations
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and security
• Research and recommend new technologies

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely with departments to support ICT needs
• Maintain documentation (system architecture, configurations, SOPs)
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
• 3–5+ years of experience in system and network administration
• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Windows Server & Linux systems (Ubuntu/CentOS)
  • Active Directory / Entra ID
  • Networking (TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, firewall)
  • Microsoft 365 / Azure
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Good communication and ability to work independently

Preferred

• Experience with:
  • Virtualization (VMware / Docker)
  • Monitoring tools (PRTG, Zabbix, Azure Monitor…)
  • Backup & disaster recovery solutions

• Certifications:
  • Microsoft (AZ-104, MS-102)
  • CCNA/CCNP
  • Security+ or equivalent
