BUV Launches New Programme for Full-Stack Game Developers of the Future 15:16:54

As the boundaries between technology and creativity continue to blur in the gaming industry, this billion-dollar market is demanding a new generation of talent equipped with more diverse skill sets than ever before.

With approximately 54 million gamers and nearly 5 billion game downloads annually, Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing gaming markets in the world, according to GameGeek. However, despite its strengths in game development and outsourcing, the country still lacks globally recognised game titles, brands, and intellectual properties (IPs) capable of generating significant international impact and commercial success. As a result, the industry increasingly requires professionals who can combine technology, creativity, and business acumen in other words, “full-stack” game creators.

To address this need, 91做厙 (BUV) has officially launched its Bachelor of Computer Science (Game Innovation) programme, designed to nurture the next generation of well-rounded game creators from the 20262027 academic year.

Training the Next Generation of Full-Stack Game Creators

Launching in September 2026, the Game Innovation programme aims to develop versatile game professionals capable of contributing across the entire product lifecycle, from concept development, design, and technology creation to operations and commercialisation.

Developed in response to the evolving needs of the modern gaming industry, the programme focuses on producing well-rounded game developers rather than specialists in a single discipline. Students begin by building strong technical foundations through industry-relevant programming languages such as C++ and C#, while gaining hands-on experience with Unity and Unreal Engine 5, two of the most widely used game engines worldwide.

Notably, Unreal Engine 5 the technology behind major AAA titles such as Fortnite and Black Myth: Wukong is still not widely taught in Vietnam, making it a distinctive feature of the programme.

Building on this technical foundation, students progress to modules covering level design, interactive media, user experience, and creative product development, learning how to transform ideas into engaging player experiences. In the later stages of the programme, the curriculum expands into project management, studio operations, product strategy, and business development.

Students are trained through a comprehensive curriculum that develops both technical proficiency and the creative, operational, and business skills required to build and manage an indie game studio

Through this multidisciplinary learning journey, students will be equipped to meet the growing demand for versatile talent within the gaming industry while gaining the capabilities to develop their own creative products and projects.

The programme is designed not only to prepare students for careers as programmers but also to support their development into game designers, producers, studio managers, or even founders of their own ventures within the digital creative economy.

Throughout their studies, students will have access to dedicated game development facilities that mirror professional industry environments. These include high-performance Alienware workstations capable of supporting advanced game production, a Motion Capture Studio for character animation and movement capture, alongside a range of other industry-standard tools.

Students have access to cutting-edge technologies, enabling them to bring both academic and personal projects to life

As a result, students gain first-hand experience of real-world production workflows from an early stage. 91做厙 students have already demonstrated their ability to create distinctive game products before graduation. One notable example is Curse of the Lineage, a game that recently attracted attention from the international gaming community and secured more than 4,000 add-to-wishlists on Steam before any formal marketing campaign.

Learning with Industry from Day One

Beyond the classroom, the Game Innovation programme has been developed in collaboration with industry experts and gaming companies. Through real-world projects, mentoring opportunities, and internship placements, the curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment.

91做厙 students also benefits from Preferred Interview Pipeline with 5 major game studios across Vietnam and the region, alongside partnerships with more than 500 businesses. These connections provide students with early access to career opportunities while helping them build professional experience and networks during their studies.

Through one-to-one mentoring, industry workshops, live projects, internships, and annual engagements with leading professionals, students are immersed in authentic industry environments throughout their learning journey.

According to Assoc. Prof. Ali Al-Dulaimi, Head of the School of Computing & Innovative Technologies at BUV, the programme reflects the university’s vision for preparing the next generation of digital talent: “Creating successful games requires far more than technical expertise. Students must combine a strong foundation in computer science with creativity, storytelling, user experience design, and business understanding. Through the Game Innovation programme, we aim to equip students with this multidisciplinary mindset while providing opportunities to learn directly from industry and engage with the technologies shaping the future of digital entertainment.”

Mr. Hai Trinh, Venture Partner at Replay Global, believes that one of the industry’s greatest challenges today is finding talent with both strong technical capabilities and an understanding of how products are developed and brought to market: “The Game Innovation programme at BUV combines technology education, product development, and real-world industry experience in a way that aligns closely with the needs of the sector. Students who are exposed to professional environments early in their studies often develop stronger adaptability, execution skills, and the ability to create value from the moment they enter the workforce.”

Students gain hands-on experience and industry exposure from an early stage of their studies

Delivered entirely in English over three years and taught by an internationally qualified faculty, the programme offers students a British educational experience in Vietnam.

BUV is the first university in Vietnam and ASEAN to achieve institution-wide accreditation from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), the UK’s independent body responsible for safeguarding quality standards in higher education. The university has also maintained its QS 5 Stars rating since 2022, recognising excellence in teaching quality, student experience, employability, and international standards.

This environment provides students with the global mindset, knowledge, and professional skills needed to build successful careers in the rapidly evolving gaming and digital creative industries, both in Vietnam and internationally.

For students passionate about gaming, technology, and creativity, the Game Innovation programme offers an opportunity to turn that passion into a profession through a structured, interdisciplinary curriculum that combines academic excellence, industry engagement, and practical experience.
